While some people were hoarding household items at stores before shut downs started hitting, many are left unable to find simple items like toilet paper or paper towels. When we do venture out to stores, it is inevitable that something will be forgotten or sold out.
Since cleaning is top priority right now, cleaning experts have come up with some hacks for those sold out items. Luckily there are a lot of household items that can be useful. Here are some items you probably already have that will help you stay clean during this quarantine:
Alcohol
While you may want to stock up on the kind you can drink, we are talking about rubbing alcohol. This is frequently kept for cleaning cuts, but it can also be used for disinfecting surfaces. You can clean your counters and toilets or even your windows with it. All you have to do is mix it with equal part water. When combined with aloe vera, you can make hand sanitizer.
Baking Soda
Instead of baking muffins, use baking soda as an oven or drain cleaner. Combined with vinegar, baking soda works wonders on drains. Soaking fruits and vegetables in baking soda is also a great way to remove any pesticides. Make a mixture of 1 teaspoon baking soda per 2 cups of water. Let the produce soak for up to 15 minutes. If you are unable to find dish soap, mix baking soda in 2 cups of warm water.
Vinegar
Vinegar can be used for a multitude of purposes. The best use is as a cleaning solution for surfaces that are prone to bacteria. In a small bowl, mix equal parts vinegar and warm water. This is a great solution to clean the computer keyboard that you are going to be working on from home as well as your countertops. If you have any of these items at home, you may have just saved yourself from an unnecessary trip to the store!
