I think we can all agree that the hardest part of this quarantine is not being able to spend time with our loved ones. Mother’s Day this year is going to look a little different. While you may not be able to spend the day in person with the moms in your life, that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate. This pandemic has taken a lot away from us but we should not miss out on honoring our mothers.
A virtual celebration has many upsides. For one, moms no longer have to worry about getting the house ready for guests to come over. On a day that should be about them, they can finally relax. We have gathered some of our best ideas for throwing a virtual Mother’s Day celebration.
Utilize Video Conferencing
Just because you can’t all be together physically, doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate together. Set up an online call with friends and family on a service such as Zoom or Skype. Mom can sit back and relax in her pajamas while still getting to see and hear from family.
Have A Cook Off
If you are planning a video call there are a few ways to get everyone involved and keep the party interesting. Typically on Mother’s Day there would be a nice meal with assorted appetizers and desserts. Since everyone is at their own homes, have a cook off. Have each person attending the call make a dish. You could even plan out a specific menu so it is like you are all eating together.
Online Gifts
Most stores are shut down which is making it difficult to get the perfect gift for the mothers in your life. Luckily, there are a lot of great options online. While some stores like Target offer drive up services, you can also order items such as picture books. Another great idea would be gift cards to support local businesses in your mom’s area during these tough times. Mom doesn’t have to cook and her favorite restaurant gets support – it’s a win win!
It can be hard to be away from family on special days. Luckily we live in a world where we can still be extremely connected. Let us know how you plan to spend your Mother’s Day!
